Samurai

One of the top melees available, the name of the game for Samurai is spam, spam, and more spam of weaponskills. Samurai has both offensive and defensive abilities that allows them to change battle plans and situations on the fly. Their ability to accumilate TP is staggering.

There are many subjobs available for Samurai and it makes them a highly viable job. Warrior gives them attack bonus, berserk, and double attack. This allows them to churn out a consistant amount of good damage, but no spikes. Thief sub gives useful utilities like flee, sneak attack, trick attack and other handy skills (treasure hunter). Thief sub is great when a Ninja is main tank in party, allowing you to not only avoid enimity but to assist the Ninja by planting a trick attack + weaponskill. Ranger was (then wasn't), then is now becoming popular once again. With the use of Soboro and a powerful bow (like mastercaster's) Samurai / Ranger can output scary damage on monsters weak to pierce; an advice is to merit at least 3 into archery for this to be successful (6 recommended). My most favorite subjob is Dragoon. The job has a trait that gives bonus to accuracy which help prevent those missed Gekkos. The jumps are very nice, in the fact that Soboro procs with them (meaning that you can get up to 3x the amount of tp per jump). Also there is the wyvern earring which bestows +5% haste (very nice to help the self skillchain). Which reminds me, this is the easiest job to perform self skillchains. Meditate -> WS -> jump -> WS.

I like to use this job on occasion when I want a brief change from Thief. I prefer fast attacking jobs over slower melee, Samurai does this just fine.
